First time in 37 years. I don’t think Dad knew what he was doing when he rented this for his 4 year old.

Why not tone it down a little and pick up a little Secret of Nihm?

Yes, a little . Saw that one in the theater. Found it in Netflix a few months ago too. Awesome!

Hey, my little girl loved the book so much that she drew the scenes for us from her mind’s eye. Absolutely the best story ever. You do know what NIMH means, right?

Not in my house?

Haha! National Institute of Mental Health. One of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. The NIH sponsors most of the non-commercial medical research done in the US and also has intramural projects on its campuses.

Oh that makes much more sense.

I don't think they ever actually explain it in the book. It just sounds like some mystical land that has talking rats.

One of my favorites! I still have my tattered copy from elementary school on my shelf.

Didn’t know there was one.
You said, “don’t”, but now I have to. lol

Let’s see if you get further into than I did, haha.

I once saw this listed as the most disturbing children’s movie ever.

Try Return to Oz. That will keep the little ones up at night.

Nice! That’s a precious heirloom. Mine is a different edition.
My daughter loved when I read it to her, and she can read it for herself now.
The sequel was written by the author’s daughter, I believe, and is not considered near as good by critics. I’ve never read it, and I don’t intend to. Sometimes a story just has to end where it ends. (I’m starting to think maybe Star Wars should have learned that lesson).

I had no idea there were any sequels! Appears there are two of them. I’m torn if I should get them or not.
It’s been probably twenty years since I last read it. Maybe due for a revisit.
And good on you for reading to your daughter. Best way to instill a love for reading I believe.

Yep, that sums it up. Spoiler alert:
Feelgood part of the movie: Hero dies/commits suicide in the end to spend time with his already dead friend.

I’ll have to rewatch it. Can’t remember a thing.

Thanks! We think so too!

Between the Wheelers and princess Mombi’s removable and interchangeable heads, my now 27 year old daughter still has nightmares.

Never seen it, but doesn’t seem to be a US release title.
